Local Alert is a communications module designed to enable end users to receive regular emailed information concerned with new events. Local Alert is expressly designed to enable information from back-office systems to be extracted to form the body of information sent to subscribers.
For instance, Local Alert allows residents to be informed of any roadworks, planning applications, jobs or crime warnings within a defined radius of their homes, or for councillors to be alerted within their electoral ward. Where back-office systems support hyperlinks, these may be provided to allow subscribers to, for example, view full details of a new planning application or to submit objections.
Subscribers can at any point tailor the service to define the geographical area to be monitored and the scope of the feedback that they require.
Local Alert opens up exciting e-democracy possibilities for targeting consultations to specific localities. Through integration with a council’s property database, councillors can now direct consultations to specific wards, opening up a unique communication channel with their electorate.
